Dance for Hope in Joplin

When I was young I used to get embarrassed when my sister hugged my friends and me constantly. As I grew into a wise, old adult, I began to appreciate that amazing unconditional love I was blessed to grow up with.

The “Day of Hope” coming up on October 28, was inspired by my sister, Lori, who is Down Syndrome. She lost 5 friends, her dance hall, physical therapy center, work and a sense of safety through the tornado disaster in Joplin. A completely barren strip remains today through about a third of the city. It is truly mind blowing to see. It seems that after a few months it should be over, but the lasting results continue to be devastating. I want to bring some smiles, tools for hope and dance for the community. We will start the day with an inspirational event from 1:45 to 3:30 at the Joplin High School. MK Mueller, an international speaker and award winning author of “8 to Great, The Powerful Process for Positive Change” will give a presentation for the 250 student mentors, special needs students and faculty.

You’re invited to join in the “Dance for Hope“. Click here for the “Dance for Hope” Invitation. My sister and her boyfriend of 20 years will dance the first dance with a song I wrote. Click on “Lori’s video” . MK Mueller will be sharing her song,”From the Heart”, featured on the Dr. Phil Show and a live DJ will finish out the night. Our special needs community loves to celebrate and wear costumes, so feel free bring your kids and join in with a costume.

The dance is free to the community. Free-will donations will be accepted at the door. If you can’t make it to the dance and want to make a donation you can contact Kelly Daniels at 913-302-7877 or kelly@8togreat.com. All funds are going to Community Support Services and Alternative Opportunities in Joplin for the special needs community. Santa Fe Tow Service, headquartered in Kansas City also located in Joplin, were instrumental in cleaning up after the disaster and will be giving out free music CDs of MK Mueller’s award winning songs. Subway is graciously donating food for the event.

We have also set up a scholarship fund for the students and faculty at the Joplin High School including a group of  special needs teachers who have requested 8 to Great scholarships. Click the following link to learn more about the “Get Two-Gether Joplin High School Fund”. “Letter from a Joplin Teacher”. The Stuart Eiken Foundation has donated scholarships for teachers and the curriculum for the school and 8 to Great will be matching the funds for scholarships and student handbooks for the Joplin School district.

Let’s keep bringing those smiles to our neighbors in Joplin! Thank you for your support, love and friendship.

Love and Hugs!
Kelly

“Day of Hope” A Special Day for Special People in Joplin

Check out the article on the “Day of Hope” in the Joplin Globe,

Kelly Daniels’ sister Lori lives in Joplin. She survived the tornados because a few weeks before the tornado hit fate had her move to a new home. The tornado had destroyed the home she was previously living in, she lost 5 friends, her work at the hospital, her Special Olympics facility, her physical therapy center, her dance hall and lost her beloved cat Gordy in the days following the disaster. Now, 4 months later, everyone thinks with all the help that everything is back to normal. But it’s not. For many it is impossible to rebuild their lives. Lori is lucky. She has a beautiful outlook on life and I decided it was time to celebrate that and uplift the community in Joplin. So on Oct 28th, we are going to Partay with an afternoon picnic and evening gala to raise funds for the special needs community in Joplin. Come dance with Lori and celebrate rebuilding Joplin. Call the gallery at 913-897-7340 for more information or go to “The Kelly Gallery” fan page on facebook, “like” our page and check out the event there. Enjoy the video of Lori with Kelly’s song she wrote and sang for Lori.

Portrait of a Firefighter

In honor of his hard work becoming a firefighter, The Kelly Gallery took portraits of this local firefighter. These portraits will become a work of art on the walls in his family home, as well as a tribute to those in his family who served as firemen before him.
